Unvented Hot Water Systems
There is an increasing demand for unvented hot water storage systems
benefits and advantages they offer.
Unvented hot water systems are connected directly to the mains water
supply with safety devices incorporated into the system to accommodate
the higher pressure and expansion of water. The result being is that all
improved flow rates and at balanced pressures with the cold taps allowing
for high performance showers to be fitted without compromise position
due to water delivery.
Unvented systems also use less space due to there being no need for a
cold water storage tank in the loft space which also has the added benefit
of no contamination and no risk of frozen pipes. Unvented hot water
systems are quieter than open systems and have a faster recovery rate of
approximately 15 - 20 minutes. The only one consideration of an
unvented system as with any system is the position of the cylinder itself to
be located as close as possible to the points of where the water is drawn
off.
There are a number of manufactures that produce unvented hot water
cylinders in various configurations, size and design although, they all meet
part L of the building regulations. The size of cylinder for a domestic
property is normally between 125 Litres and 250 Litres.

Another type of system that produces mains pressure water after passing
through a storage cylinder - a Thermal Store. These systems are mainly
vented systems although there are unvented options available and work by
transferring heat from stored hot water to mains water passing through
the heat exchanger within the cylinder.
